2. Choose how to design a section

You choose a design path for each section. The three paths are different, and the choice stays with that section after you save it.
Open the chooser
- Open the Design Hub for the course.
- Find the section under Design each section.
- Select Design this section.
The page title is Design this section. The heading is “How do you want to design [section name]?”
Pick one path
| Path | Use it when |
|---|---|
| Design a unit | This heading is a block of instruction with several lessons under one unit plan. The plan follows Understanding by Design, concept-based design, or competency-based design. |
| Design a lesson | This heading is one class period. The plan follows BOPPPS, Gagné’s Nine Events, or Merrill’s Principles of Instruction. |
| Design a set of activities | You want activities and resources in the section, without a unit plan or a lesson plan. |
Select the card. That opens the matching designer. Back to Design Hub leaves the section unchanged.
After you save
The section stays on that path. If you open Design this section again, AIM Studio tells you the section is already designed as a unit, a lesson, or activities, and offers Continue on that same path. To use a different path, design a different section.
A site may hide a card when that designer is turned off for the course. You will only see the paths that are available.
