Frequently Asked Question

3. Create the course outline
Last Updated 16 days ago

Course Designer, opened from the hub, creates section headings only. You design the content of each section afterward.

Start

  1. Open the Design Hub.
  2. Under Design course structure, select Design course structure.

The wizard title is Course Designer. A notice at the top says this wizard designs the course structure, and that you will design each section from the Design Hub. There are three steps: Sources, Course Info, and Section Review.

Sources

The screen title is Design the course structure. Provide a prompt, a file, or both.

  • Design course structure using a prompt — say what the course covers, who it is for, and how the sections should be organised.
  • Design course structure using a source file — upload a syllabus or course description. Accepted formats are PDF, Word (.docx), and PowerPoint (.pptx).

Next stays unavailable until there is a prompt or a file. Select Analyze & Next. AIM reads the source and fills the next screen. Learning outcomes are not imported here. Those are added later in Competency Designer.

Course Info

The screen title is Course details. Review and edit:

  • Topic
  • Audience
  • Tone
  • Language — this is the language of the section titles AIM writes. An uploaded document keeps its own language. Outcome codes are not translated.
  • Duration — for example, “2 hours a week for 5 weeks.”
  • Number of sections — optional. Leave it blank and AIM chooses.
  • Course Objective Statement

Then go on to generate the outline.

Section Review

Select Generate sections if the list is not already there. Review the proposed sections. Edit a title in place, clear any section you do not want, or use Select all.

Select Approve and next. AIM creates those headings as Moodle sections and returns you to the Design Hub. The message is: "Outline created. Returning to Design Hub so you can design each section".

Those new sections are drafts. They stay off the student course page until you publish them. You can still add a section later with Add section on the hub.
