Frequently Asked Question

The AI Learning Assistant block is available at the course level and can be added to a block drawer within a course by the 'editingteacher' role. This block connects to the AI model selected via Moodle's AI subsystem. The 'editingteacher' can control student access using block permissions.

The screenshot below shows the block with the two student-centred AI tools - i) AI Tutor and ii) AI Quiz.

When a student chooses the 'AI Tutor' or 'AI Quiz' button, they will then be directed to a pop-up window to select the activity or resource from within the course that they would like AI-assisted support - see screenshot below:

The AI Tutor is a chatbot that provides students with one-to-one instruction on the selected resource or activity. This ensures information is primarily pulled from the teacher added content to avoid unwanted AI-generated content that can lead to hallucinations

The AI Quiz is a chatbot that conducts a 10-question multiple-choice quiz with the student on the selected resource or activity. This ensures information is primarily pulled from the teacher added content to avoid unwanted AI-generated content that can lead to hallucinations. This is not a scored assessment and is intended for revision.

NOTE: As of the most recent plugin version (2025070700), the AI Learning Assistant will only allow users to select the following activity/resource types:
