The AI subsystem allows you to generate text and images in Moodle’s editor. This will simplify content creation, saving you time and effort. This functionality is available to all Moodle LMS users with the appropriate permissions.
AI-generated content is tagged for transparency; and descriptions for generated images are automatically added, making it easier to create inclusive, accessible learning materials.
The 'AI generate text' button allows users to generate text via the Generate AI content icon or through the insert menu, where they can provide a description of the text to be generated:

NOTE: As of Sept 1, 2025, we are unable to control the AI text and image generation at a more granular level (i.e., at the course level or by activity/resource). This is something that Moodle HQ is aware of and are currently working on (MDL-83156). According to the tracker, it shows that this should be fixed with the release of Moodle 5.1 that will be available on October 6, 2025.
To prevent students from accessing AI when completing a Quiz long answer question type or the Assignment online text submission type, it is recommended to disable these AI tools at the site level until this release is available.
